Roy J. Shlemon Mentor Program in Applied Geosciences
Tuesday and Wednesday, 15 and 16 May, 12:15–1:15 p.m., Kachina Room
This program is designed to extend the mentoring reach of individual professionals from applied geology to undergraduate and graduate students. Students and mentors: Join us for a free lunch. Space is limited—first come, first served.

Mann Mentors in Applied Hydrogeology Program
Thursday, 17 May, 12:15–1:15 p.m., Kachina Room
This program presents mentoring opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and recently graduated students with a declared interest in applied hydrogeology as a career. Lunch will be provided for students and mentors. Space is limited—first come, first served.

GSA is seeking professionals to serve as meeting mentors, and students who wish to be paired with a mentor for the duration of the RM/Cord joint section meeting. GEOSCIENCE CAREER WORKSHOPS

Part 1: Career Planning and Informational Interviewing.
Tuesday, 15 May, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., Room 108
Your job-hunting process should begin with career planning, not when you apply for jobs. This workshop will help you begin this process and will introduce you to informational interviewing.

Part 2: Geoscience Career Exploration.
Tuesday, 15 May, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Room 108
What do geologists in various sectors earn? What do they do? What are the pros and cons to working in academia, government, and industry? Workshop presenters, and professionals in the field, will address these issues.

Part 3: Cover Letters, Résumés, and CVs.
Wednesday, 16 May, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., Room 108
How do you prepare a cover letter? Does your résumé need a good edit? Whether you are currently in the market for a job or not, learn how to prepare the best résumé possible. You will review numerous examples to help you learn important résumé dos and don’ts.

Student Travel Grants

Students who are GSA members and who register for the meeting are eligible to apply for a student travel grant. Please check Rocky Mountain Section Travel Grant eligibility or check Cordilleran Section Travel Grant eligibility.
