SC1. Making Geoscience Animations and Videos and Assessing them in the Classroom.

Geoscientific information and processes are very amenable to treatment using videos and animations but not enough are being made or assessed in the classroom. This short course is designed to engage interested geoscientists to make and assess their own geoscience videos and animations. The short course will stress the importance of identifying target audiences, carrying out research, generating storyboards and narrations, making and editing videos and animations, the importance of sound, dissemination, and assessment.

This National Science Foundation–sponsored short course will focus on building the professional skills of undergraduate and graduate students with a focus on résumé and CV development, networking, and other written and oral communications. The course will be interactive and include individual and group exercises, discussion, and presentations. Limited to 20 students.
