The GSA Switch Energy Awareness & Efficiency Program

SWITCHEnergy is the foundation of modern life. Our transportation, global commerce, food and water, housing, medicine, communications, and computing all depend on it.

Yet energy is in a sweeping period of transition. Renewables are entering the landscape. Unconventional gas and oil are changing our ideas of supply. Opinions on nuclear are shifting.  Carbon concerns may, or may not, affect global production and consumption.

What does the future of energy really hold? In the new documentary film Switch, Dr. Scott Tinker explores the world’s leading energy sites, from coal to solar, oil to biofuels. He interviews the people driving energy today, international leaders of government, industry and academia. In the end, he cuts through the confusion to discover a path to our future that is surprising and remarkably pragmatic.

As no documentary before it, Switch has been embraced and supported by audiences across the energy spectrum: environmentalists and academics, fossil and renewable energy experts, scientists and economists.  The Washington Post recently called Switch “smart and refreshingly free of hot air,” while DC Film Review called it “must-see entertainment for every person in America.”

A public viewing of Switch and Q&A discussion with Scott Tinker was held at the McGlohon Theater in Charlotte, NC, on Monday, 5 Nov.

Switch Screening

The Switch Energy Project is a film, web and education program to help us move forward to a smarter energy future. It has four parts: 1) Switch, the groundbreaking new documentary, acclaimed as the first truly balanced energy film 2) a robust video-driven website with more than 5 hours of short clips organized by topic, 3) a video-driven primary education program developed with the American Geosciences Institute, coming in 2013, and 4) the GSA Switch Energy Awareness & Efficiency Program, to help a new generation shape our energy future.

The GSA Switch Energy Awareness & Efficiency Program

The GSA Switch Energy Awareness & Efficiency Program operates through GSA’s extensive network of Campus Representatives. The program includes campus screenings of the acclaimed energy film Switch, along with organized follow-up energy discussions, a student ambassador program, and corresponding campus energy-efficiency drives.  The GSA Switch Energy Awareness & Efficiency Program launched at over 50 universities across the country this fall.  Bookings are underway to involve more than 200 additional schools in the spring of 2013.

With your help we can change the national energy conversation and the way we understand and use energy.

For more information, or to schedule a screening on your campus, please contact Rachel Ecklund at , or call +1-512-861-6278.  To learn more about the Switch Energy Project, please visit for information and downloadable materials.  Thank you for your valuable contribution to this project.
