Mentor Programs

The Roy J. Shlemon Mentor Program in Applied Geosciences is designed to extend the mentoring reach of individual professionals from applied geology to undergraduate and graduate students. Students and mentors, join us for a free lunch on Thursday, 4 April.

The Mann Mentors in Applied Hydrogeology Program presents mentoring opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and recent graduate students with a declared interest in applied hydrogeology as a career. Lunch will be provided for students and mentors on Friday, 5 April.

Plenary Sessions: Panel Discussions on Careers in Geoscience

Join in these panel discussions, one with industry professionals and the other regarding careers in academics, to learn more about internships and jobs in the geosciences, career expectations, opportunities, and networking. Travel Grants

The deadline to apply has now passed.

The GSA Foundation has funds available for student travel grants.
To qualify for these grants, you must be

  1. the senior author and presenter of the paper,
  2. a current student member the South Central Section of GSA,

  3. registered for the meeting to which you are applying for the grant.

In addition, you must fill out the travel grant application by 4 March 2013, and send a memo to the South Central Section Secretary from your department chair verifying that you are a student in good standing.

The money, when combined with equal funds from the sections, is used to assist both undergraduate and graduate student members of GSA. The South Central Section usually makes awards of up to US$200. The local committee and officers of GSA’s South Central Section rely on student volunteers to help meetings run smoothly, and we are pleased to offer student volunteers free registration and a t-shirt for the meeting in return for ~6 hours of volunteer work.

Outstanding Student Poster Program

Awardees receive complimentary registration to the Annual Meeting, a cash award, and their posters will be prominently displayed at the Annual Meeting. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible.
