Pits, Craters, Hollows, Blast Winds, and Spherules — On Earth and Beyond

GSA Annual Meeting & Exposition, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, 4–7 November 2012

Boulder, CO, USA – Impact cratering is an intense subject of much discussion in the fields of geoscience, geophysics, and planetary science. Fascinating examples include the El’gygytgyn impact structure in the Russian Arctic; pits and hollows on Mercury; the cratering history on Vesta, one of the largest asteroids in the solar system; and possible evidence for far-reaching, intense impact blast winds on Mars.

Session organizers Christian Koeberl of the University of Vienna and Jeffrey Plescia of Johns Hopkins University have brought together fourteen papers covering these topics and more.
