Categories & Eligibility

MEMBER

Professional Geologists. This includes college- and university-level instructors.

Any one or more of these eligibility requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in geology or a related field (i.e., any physical or biological sciences or other disciplines such as engineering or geography);
  • Equivalent training through practical experience;
  • Active connections with geology through employment in geological work; or
  • Teaching geology at the college level (join as a Teacher if you teach at the non-college level).

After 25 years of membership and age 65, members move to Senior Member/Fellow status, entitling them to reduced dues. After 30 years of membership and age 70, dues and Division memberships are waived for life.

STUDENT / RECENT GRADUATE MEMBER

Undergraduate and Graduate Students.

Minimum eligibility requirement:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled and majoring in geology or a related science.

Recent Graduates.
Minimum eligibility requirement:

  • Not currently enrolled as a student , but received a degree in geology or a related science within the last two years. After two years, Recent Grads move up to the Professional Member category.

A related science is any physical or biological science or other discipline such as engineering or geography.

TEACHER MEMBER AFFILIATE

Does not include college- or university-level instructors.

Minimum eligibility requirement:

  • Must be currently employed as a teacher at an elementary- or secondary-level institution

Interested person with no degree in geology or related field.

Minimum eligibility requirement:

  • Must be neither professionally trained nor employed in geology or a related field (i.e., any physical and biological sciences or other disciplines such as engineering, geography, or anthropology) related to geoscience, nor currently studying such science at the collegiate level.
