PhD Position, Geoscience Education and Geochemistry or Geomechanics, The Ohio State University

PhD position available in Geoscience Education and either Geochemistry/Paleoceanography or Geomechanics starting as early as January 2018. The project, supported by the NSF GEOPATHS program, is a collaboration between Earth Sciences and Mathematics focused on using Geoscience research problems to contextualize abstract mathematical concepts that represent roadblocks to students in freshman level mathematics courses. The successful applicant will also have an opportunity to conduct basic research in either Geochemistry/Paleoceanography or Structural Geology/Geomechanics. This is a great opportunity for a student who is training for a career in higher education, as it will prepare them for the dual roles of research and teaching. The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate and/or Master’s degree in a geoscience or closely related field, strong written and oral communication skills, and an interest in innovative approaches to teaching.
