The Department of Geosciences at Georgia State University seeks applicants for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position, available as early as July 1, 2017. The assignment will include managing operations in the lab of Dr. Dan Deocampo, working with PhD, MS, and undergraduate students, and operating/maintaining lab instrumentation such as XRD, XRF, and others. The assignment will include opportunities to conduct self-directed research as well, especially complementary or collaborative research with faculty or students. The lab currently carries out NSF funded research focused on mineralogical and geochemical aspects of limnogeology, including Quaternary geology, clay mineralogy, and sedimentary geochemistry related to human origins.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Geosciences or a closely related field, and will have experience in some area of mineralogy, geochemistry, limnogeology, or sedimentology. Experience with analytical instrumentation is desirable, as are successful presentation, publication, and grant writing experience.

The position is funded by the University, and will include a competitive salary, full benefits, access to all lab facilities, and some research/travel costs. The initial appointment is for one year, and is renewable for subsequent years. Beyond the second year, 50% of the salary and benefits must be funded externally.
