Visiting Assistant Professor of Geology, Marietta College

Marietta College is an independent, selective, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college of 1,200 graduate and undergraduate students located in the historic river city of Marietta, Ohio. The city of 15,000 is part of a larger metro area of 150,000 located about two hours from Columbus and Pittsburgh.

The College traces its roots to 1797, was formally chartered in 1835, and was awarded a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa in 1860, only the 16th institution in the nation then so honored. Job Description:
The Department of Petroleum Engineering and Geology at Marietta College invites applications for a one-year position in the field of igneous and metamorphic petrology for the academic year 2018-19 with the potential to become a tenure-track position in the future. Candidates would preferably have a Ph.D. and teaching interests at the undergraduate level, but we will consider candidates who have completed a Master's Degree and candidates who are ABD. Teaching and research interests that involve undergraduates in fieldwork and laboratory methods are particularly desirable. The successful candidate would be responsible for teaching introductory and foundational geology courses such as Physical Geology, Historical Geology, Earth Resources, Mineralogy and Petrology, and there is the potential to teach specialized upper level courses. The department requires a senior capstone project similar to a M.S. research project, and the candidate will have the opportunity to mentor students in projects related to their field. Evaluation of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Requirements:
A Ph.D. and teaching interests at the undergraduate level are preferred, but we will consider candidates who have completed a Master's Degree as well as candidates who are ABD. Teaching and research interests that involve undergraduates in fieldwork and laboratory methods are particularly desirable.
