Enjoy three days of professional development geared specifically for the K-12 educator, home-school parents, and informal educators in order to raise geoscience literacy of future generations. Interact with professional geoscientists from industry, academia, and government agencies who are your workshop presenters, mentors, and trip leaders. 

Workshop Features:

  • A mix of field and classroom activities;
  • A focus on local geology & issues at the state level tied to local teaching standards;
  • Field trips to classic geologic outcrops & natural geologic processes;
  • Field trips to sites related to regional geology & industry;
  • Classroom activities focused on key content in a hands-on, pedagogically sound, ready-to-use form.

Host Site

GeoTeachers Indiana 2018 will be hosted in Indianapolis. Meals will be provided at the workshop site and by bag lunch on the field trip.

Accessibility

GSA is committed to providing GeoTeachers workshops for the entire population of educators. To assist us in finalizing the details of the field trips, please indicate if you require special accommodations or dietary considerations by checking the box on your registration form.

Fees

Cost: $200 (total) for early registration 
K-12 Teachers must register for the GSA Annual Meeting ($60). Be sure to select "604 - 1st Indiana Field Workshop: K-12 Earth Science Teachers" ($140 [$190 after 1 Aug.]) from the GeoCareers section of the Events page (or p.2 of the paper form).

Not included: Transportation to and from Indianapolis and lodging in Indianapolis are NOT provided.

Continuing Education & Graduate Credit

Participants receive 15 Professional Development Points. In addition, those participants seeking graduate credit can register for a 2-credit graduate course through the University of Northern Colorado for $200. More details to come.
