NASA's Undergraduate Student Research Program
Universities Space Research Association Undergraduate Student Research Program — offers undergraduates across the United States mentored internship experiences at NASA Centers and research facilities.
NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program
This National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scholarship program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to a maximum of US$8,000 per year) for full-time study during the 9-month academic year; a 10-week, full-time internship position (US$650/week) during the summer at a NOAA facility; and, if reappointed, academic assistance (up to a maximum of US$8,000) for full-time study during a second 9-month academic year. The internship provides students with hands-on educational training experience in NOAA-related science, research, technology, policy, management, and education activities. Awards also include travel funds to attend a mandatory Hollings Scholarship Program orientation, conferences where students present a paper or poster, and a housing subsidy for scholars who do not reside at home during the summer internship. The Earth Around Us: Syllabus - The following syllabus was developed for a freshman course to teach students the geology of environmental issues and attract them to geology as a course of study. The course is built around the book The Earth Around Us: Maintaining a Livable Planet (Westview, 2003), which consists of short essays that provide solid grounding in the geology of environmental issues.
