"Are you about to embark on the search for a job?  Or are you currently in the job market and want in increase your chances?  Would you like some feedback on your résumé and some pointers on approaching your interview? The new GSA Geoscience Career Program Workshop is designed to help you begin this process. We will discuss cover letters, CV's/resumes, job hunting skills, and job market statistics.

GSA On to the Future

This is a brief meeting for OTF participants (and their sponsors) to discuss effective mentoring relationships and networking opportunities for underrepresented students at the GSA section meeting. The goal is to accelerate the process of becoming engaged and involved members of our scientific and professional community. OTF is a grass roots initiative of The Geological Society of America (GSA).

OUTSTANDING STUDENT POSTER COMPETITION

CASH PRIZES!
Separate awards for best graduate and best undergraduate poster presentation.

First place undergraduate and graduate awardees receive complimentary registration to the 2014 GSA Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, a cash award, and their posters will be prominently displayed at the GSA Annual Meeting. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible.

MENTOR PROGRAMS

Roy J. Shlemon Mentor Program in Applied Geosciences
Mon., 17 March, lunchtime
Designed to extend the mentoring reach of individual professionals from applied geology to undergraduate and graduate students. Students and mentors: Join us for a free lunch. Space is limited — first come, first served.

Mann Mentors in Applied Hydrogeology Program
Tues., 18 March, lunchtime
Presents mentoring opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and recent graduate students with a declared interest in applied hydrogeology as a career. Lunch will be provided for students and mentors. Space is limited — first come, first served.

The GSA Foundation has funds available for student travel grants. The money, when combined with equal funds from the sections, is used to assist both undergraduate and graduate student members of GSA. The South-Central Section usually makes awards of up to US$200. You must be registered for the meeting BEFORE you can apply. For more information, contact the section secretary, Jay Sims, .

VOLUNTEERS

Student volunteers are requested to assist with meeting activities including assistance in the Speaker Ready Room and at technical sessions and symposia. GSA will provide meeting registration for student volunteers who commit to a minimum of half a day of service during the meeting. GSA STUDENT FEEDBACK SESSION

Mon., 5:00-6:00 PM, Eureka Springs Ballroom 3

Student attendees are invited to this event to discuss the state of the Society and its new initiatives. Moderated by a member of the GSA Executive Board. Refreshments will be provided.
