Local Committee Chair
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2013 Annual Meeting of GSA’s Northeastern Section, I would like to personally invite you to join us at the Omni-Mount Washington Resort for a most unique and important meeting. 2013 is the 125th Anniversary of our Society, and our meeting will be the first to celebrate this special occasion.
The Mount Washington Hotel has been the scene of many historic events and celebrations, like the famous Bretton Woods Monetary Conference in 1944 that established the International Monetary Fund and set the stage for the worldwide prosperity that followed the Second World War. Its spectacular but graciously relaxed atmosphere is well known for fostering the kind of reflective intellectual exchange we always seek but is difficult to find in today’s hectic world. We are fortunate to have the hotel help us with our celebration.
With the hotel’s help, this meeting will provide the greatest value and be one of the least expensive, especially for students, in decades. The hotel is providing us with special accommodation arrangements and reduced rates during a window stretching from three days before and three days after our meeting, providing attendees a singular opportunity to stay at the historic location, to sample its many aesthetic and recreational attractions, and to participate in an historic one-of-a-kind Section meeting.
The hotel’s meeting facilities provide a perfect atmosphere for a meeting like ours, an opportunity our local committee has worked hard to exploit. A look at the diverse technical program described shows that there is something of scientific interest for every GSA member, and we have a very special plenary lecture scheduled that will address many of the most recent scientific issues related to climate change.
So, I encourage you to come, relax, learn, and exchange while enjoying a special personal and intellectual experience at the 2013 Meeting. Consider bringing your family as well. Otherwise, they will never forgive you...
I look forward to seeing you all next March!
Brian Fowler, Chair
