The Geosphere article "Rejection of the lake spillover model for initial incision of the Grand Canyon, and discussion of alternatives" by W.R. Dickerson, published online ahead of print on 13 Dec. 2012, was covered by the Huffington Post and the Oregon Herald on 18 Dec.

The Geology article by J.J. Ague and colleagues, "Discovery of ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism in the Acadian orogen, Connecticut, USA," published online ahead of print on 13 Dec. 2012, was covered by Discovery News on 19 Dec.

2012 GSA Annual Meeting science presented by N. Noffke and colleagues, "A microbial ecosystem in an ancient sabkha of the 3.49 GA Pilbara, Western Australia, and comparison with Mesoarchean, Neoproterozoic and Phanerozoic examples," received wide media coverage, including articles in the Washington Post on 31 Dec., The West Australian on 2 Jan., and the Huffington Post on 4 Jan. The Washington Post article also included a mention of Noffke's 2007 GSA Today article, "Turbulent lifestyle: Microbial mats on Earth's sandy beaches — Today and 3 billion years ago."

"A detection of Milankovitch frequencies in global volcanic activity" by S. Kutterolf and colleagues, published online ahead of print in Geology on 30 Nov. 2012, was included in the "Editor's Choice" section of the 4 Jan. issue of Science. It was also covered by Astrobiology Magazine on 23 Dec., LiveScience on 2 Jan., and The Huffington Post on 3 Jan. The coverage was also picked up by Grist, Mother Nature News, and The Guardian.

The Jan. 2013 Geology article, "Grounding-line retreat of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet from inner Pine Island Bay," by C.-D. Hillenbrand and colleagues, was covered by LiveScience and Our Amazing Planet on 15 Jan. (with video coverage included) and picked up by Mother Nature News, also on 15 Jan.

A 2 Jan. Georneys blog post, "LASI V: Dr. Volcano in the Cave of Crystals, Naica, Mexico," includes discussion of the April 2007 Geology paper, "Formation of natural gypsum megacrystals in Naica, Mexico," by J.M. García-Ruiz and colleagues.

The Nov. 2007 GSA Today science article by C.E. Bond and colleagues, "What do you think this is? "Conceptual uncertainty" in geoscience interpretation," was named "must-read geophysics" by the Agile geoscience blog in an 8 Jan. posting.

GSA Special Paper 485, On the Strata of the Earth, a translation by S.M. Rowland and S. Korolev of the original Russian book by Mikhail Lomonosov, is reviewed in an 18 Jan. Scientific American "History of Geology" blog post.
